Volkl Mantra 84 Skis

The new Mantra 84 is made for sporty skiers who prefer groomed slopes but can’t deny their freeride affinity. With its narrow waist, the 84 takes cues from Völkl’s race line and excels in the turns with outstanding versatility and effortless handling on challenging slopes and variable snow conditions. This versatility is made possible in part by the proven Völkl 3D Radius Sidecut. With a short radius underfoot, it allows for easy compact turns on as well as off piste without being too aggressive. Longer radii at the tail and the tip allow excellent maneuverability at high speeds and for wide turns.

A Carving Ski in an All Mountain Wrapper
Posted by Diamond Dave (Certified Winter Enthusiast) on 4/3/2026

Pros: Fast, stable, variety of turn shapes, excellent edge grip, rewards polished technique, more versatile than a true carving ski
Cons: Lack of versatility is the trade-off for precision.

This is a very interesting ski as it bridges the Peregrine and Mantra series to me. The Mantra 84 really rips carved turns, it has exception edgehold, superb stability at speed and thanks to it's 3D Radius sidecut, cranks out short turns down the fall-line exceptionally well! I've skied this ski on perfect groomers at Stratton, on steep mush at Blue Mountain and on steep ice, and it kept out-performing my expectations.

Volkl skis have a unique sound to them, and it's hard to describe. A crisp ping almost. I know, for many, this characteristic is unfavorable, and I find it through the entire Mantra range. The Mantra's are awesome skis, but they aren't FUN seeking skis. They are precise German tools to extract the most out of each skier and reward you more the better you ski. I think that's an important distinction between this ski and, say, the Anomaly line from Blizzard.
