Buckmans.com is proud to have a state-of-the-art solar energy system at our corporate headquarters in Pottstown, PA! The roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and canopy mounted solar array converts sunlight into electricity, supplementing the power needed to run our sodium hypochlorite manufacturing facility (to learn more about this plant, visit buckmansinc.com). Currently, our roof-mounted array is the largest in the state of Pennsylvania!
The solar energy system produces over 1,610,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year from 6,334 high efficiency photovoltaic solar modules. By using electricity from a clean, renewable energy source, we offset 2.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide a year. This is equivalent to conserving over 127,300 gallons of gasoline annually.
The renewable energy project was made possible in part by a grant from the State of Pennsylvania as well as the Federal Government.
We also have roof-mounted arrays on 5 of our 6 retail stores, making these locations energy-neutral.

In addition to utilizing available renewable energy technology, we actively recycle paper and plastic products. Last year we collected, bundled and recycled over 1,000 LBs of paper products, 51,000 LBs of corrugated materials, and 159,800 LBs of plastic.
By making this concerted effort, over 200,000 LBs of waste each year are no longer sent to a landfill but are recycled and re-used. |
Recently we participated in a program offered by Peco to help lower our energy consumption. The program combines Peco's expertise with other incentives for companies like Buckmans.com, helping them analyze the way they use power and identify ways to help them become more energy efficient.
For Buckman's Ski and Snowboard Shops this involved upgrading the types of lighting fixtures used in our warehouse and other facilities.
Over 80 fixtures were changed from the old style of lighting to newer, more efficient lighting technology. This saves over 43,500 kilowatts annually.
In addition to these changes, motion sensors were added to further reduce our power usage in areas of our warehouse not frequently traveled by our warehouse personnel.
