How to Install a Ski Boot Heater?

Not only do cold feet lead to extreme discomfort and maybe even pain, but they can also limit your mobility on the mountain. Your edge control, balance and overall skiing or snowboarding ability may be affected by cold toes. Boot warmers can prevent these issues and keep you comfortable on the slopes longer.

Different Types of Boot Heaters

Most heating options come in insoles, socks or adhesive pads that fit inside your ski boots. These can come in battery-powered or nonelectric designs to provide your feet with heat.

What Tools Do You Need for Installation?

Below are some extra tools you'll need to install your ski or snowboard boot warmer:

• Sharpie
• Serrated Knife/Demel Tool
• Duct Tape
• Scissors

Steps to Install Boot Heaters

Follow these steps to successfully install your ski boot warmer system:

1. Remove the liner from your boots, and find the footbed located at the bottom of the liner and remove it.
2. Place the heating element underneath the ball of your foot on the footbed.
3. Use your sharpie to mark where you want to cut a hole. The hole must be wide enough to fit the end of the heating element, about an inch.
4. Use the serrated knife, or Dremel tool, to cut the hole, then run the end of the heating element through the cut.
5. Remove the adhesive backing from the heating element and stick it to the footbed, allowing it to sit flat.
6. Lay the wire flat on the bottom of the footbed. Cover it with duct tape.
7. Take off the protective layer of the Camberelle Cover and gently press it down onto the footbed, starting from the inside moving outward. Trim any excess with your scissors
8. Use your serrated knife to cut a 1-inch hole in the back heel of your liner. Many boots have an area where you can cut or may even provide a pre-cut slit.
9. Slide the wire through the hole in the liner and position the footbed in the correct place.
10. Tape the wire to the back of your liner, and slide the liner back into your boots.

Tips After Installation

After you install a ski boot warmer, it might be wise to plug the batteries in to charge for 24 hours. We call this a conditioning charge, which will give your heating element a full charge and is also a great way to get into the habit of taking good care of your batteries. Doing this routinely will increase the life of your boot heater.

When you've finished a long day up on the mountain, you should plug your battery in immediately after. Again, this will help take care of them and make sure you are ready to go for the next day or any time you need them.

You should also consider using a ski boot dryer. There's nothing better than putting on a dry pair of ski boots to start a fun day.
