Patagonia Ski Gear at Buckman's

Where most popular winter wear brands found their start on alpine slopes, Patagonia grew from an entirely different sport — rock climbing. Yvon Chouinard spent his youth ascending and descending precarious faces throughout Southern California’s many famous climbing mountains. Seeing a need for more environmentally-friendly climbing gear, the then-18-year-old Chouinard bought himself an iron forge and taught himself blacksmithing.

Why Choose Patagonia for Ski & Snowboard Ga

His designs were an instant hit in the climbing community, so he partnered with a fellow climber to start Chouinard Equipment. This business swiftly became the largest supplier of climbing hardware in America, and the owners saw an opportunity to provide clothing for climbers as well.

At the time, clothing was an afterthought, and climbers had to deal with how uncomfortable off-the-rack options were. Chouinard began experimenting with layers of different fabric to provide optimal results, and along the way, he revolutionized the entire outdoor wear industry. His insight and forethought led to a focus on clothing, as well as a search for a name that would befit their mission. From this, Patagonia was born.

Their new company made research and development a core element of their business, working with fabric makers to create material that would provide unmatched results in all weather types. They implemented a policy of creating gear from the most environmentally-friendly options available, such as hemp, 100% organic cotton and a polyester made from recycled soda bottles.

Alongside their materials research and development, they’ve also invented new approaches to construction. Patagonia’s ski and snowboard jackets use these techniques for lighter weight and reduced bulk, greatly improved water repellency and proprietary seaming for an unmatched fit. They’re also big on making a statement — you’ll find color and patterns throughout their lines that help make sure you won’t go unnoticed.

Patagonia Snowboard and Ski Jackets

When you choose a Patagonia ski jacket for your winter adventures, you’ll discover an extremely well-engineered set of features throughout. DWR (durable water repellent) recycled polyester on the exterior repels moisture and dries very quickly. All down insulation is 800-fill power and certified as traceable down, meaning it’s sourced through only the most humane standards.

You’ll also find a single-pull adjustable hood with an interior storm flap and zipper storage, keeping it from pressing against your chin. Many Patagonia jackets feature handwarmer pockets as well as a zippered chest pocket that also serves as a stuff sack, letting you store them in very small spaces. The hem can be tightened by pulling a cord that's cleverly accessible in the front pocket, so you can always keep your hands warm.
